Every KVM port needs a SIP or cable(IAC) which attach directly to the IT devices being managed. The SIPS are intelligent cables that are field upgradeable and support high end features like CAC and virtual media. The IAC is more cost effective and provides basic support for USB and PS2. Each cable is designed to dramatically reduce cable volume and improper airflow. This is achieved by converting and transmitting the KVM signals through a single CAT5 unshielded twisted-pair (UTP) cable to one of the RJ-45 ports at the rear of KVM switch. They also enable the administrator to locate the devices up to 150 feet from the KVM switch, allowing the KVM switch and management console to be located several racks away from a target device.
